For a dry, itchy scalp or brittle, damaged hair
Try this deep conditioning treatment on your hair and scalp: Start by massaging extra virgin olive oil into your scalp. Then comb enough olive oil through your hair to make it feel damp. Tie it up out of your way so you can keep the olive oil in your hair for as long as possible.
For the best results, microwave a damp towel until warm (be careful not to let it get too hot) and wrap it around your head. Or try using a hair dryer to heat the olive oil and open the shafts in your hair and maximize the amount of olive oil your hair and scalp absorb. Exersizing with olive oil in your hair heats your scalp and creates an extra-deep conditioning environment.
The best thing you can do with your hair is to limit shampoo and volumizing product use. Shampoo strips your hair and scalp of natural oils leaving it vulnerable to pollution and the elements. Your hair becomes brittle and dry and your scalp and becomes itchy. Try shampooing only twice a week. You can rinse your scalp daily with tepid water to remove sweat and to deposit natural oils onto the length of your hair if it looks too greasy. Rinse with lavender water to keep your hair and scalp smelling fresh. Another trick to avoid shampooing is to sprinkle baby powder onto your roots then comb it through. The powder absorbs the oil and combing it moves the oil away from your roots. Brunettes beware of white powder - you can buy similar product online.
Volumizing products work by stripping your hair and roots of natural oils. When your hair and roots are not "weighed down" with oil, your hair has more volume. While this may be fashionable, it is not healthy for your hair.
For fly-away or frizzy hair
After hair dries, rub a few drops of olive oil on the palms of your hands and distribute evenly through your hair. This will add shine and control frizz and fly-aways as well as slight UV protection. Rub excess oil on the back of your hands or your elbows too keep your other parts hydrated too.
